Jess a Girl is a Canadian artist who has lived many lives during her time as a professional musician.
From nomadic busker to Joni Mitchell tribute artist, to children's musician and full time TikTok live streamer, Jess has
always done what it takes to centre her passion for music and performing.
Jessica didn't grow up in a musical family, but loved singing from an early age. She fell in love with performances by watching the pop princesses of the 90s / 00s. From there, she knew she had to have a career as a performing musician. As a teen, Jess taught herself the guitar and began writing. She showcased her talent at open mics in her hometown of Langley BC and, after a short time, was hired to provide entertainment for pubs and events.
For years, her bread and butter was the pub scene, wedding entertainment and other private events that mostly called for background music. Her side hustle during this time was working as a party princess for children and teaching kids art workshops. She started to feel pigeon holed. What she really wanted was to perform her original music for a community that appreciated her vision for the sparkly pop music she always knew she was destined to make.
By 2019, Jess was at her lowest, creatively. She craved something new and decided to launch her own children's show, utilizing her experience with working with kids, and she created an original character she named Penny Pom Pom. Penny’s repertoire and reputation deepened as, during the pandemic of 2020, Jess taught herself to produce music using Garageband and made an entire children's album in her living room. This album was later nominated for Children's Album of the Year by the Canadian Folk Music Awards. She followed up that first album with a Creative BC funded web series, 2 children's books, and a second album - all the while performing live for kids all over BC. Penny Pom Pom is one of Jess's proudest achievements.
In 2023, Jess felt new inspiration to return to pop music. Penny taught Jess many vital things about herself and the music she wanted to make. The seed was planted with her first self-produced single "The Universe in Her Hair". After upgrading to using Logic Pro, that seed sprouted with 2 more singles: "Cliché" and "Take Me to Tokyo".
Then came TikTok, the insistent grass cracking the pavement so Jess could continue to bloom. Jess doesn't remember why she decided to "go live" that one day, in late 2024; but, something from an app she barely ever used called to her. And she's so grateful it did. Jess’ TikTok success is allowing her lifelong dream of being a performing musician to become a reality. Jess is now a full time live streamer with the majority of her show being made up of original songs requested by fans.
Within a year, Jess accumulated over 10k followers and a loyal community who showed up for her almost every day to enjoy her original music and positive spirit. Today, her account has organically reached over 20k followers and her entirely crowd funded first album, will be released in two volumes with the first dropping August 2026.
